upādhyāyān daśācārya ācāryāṇāṃ śataṃ pitā
sahasraṃ tu pitṝn mātā gauraveṇātiricyate //
The teacher (akarya) is ten times more venerable than a sub-teacher (upadhyaya), the father a hundred times more than the teacher, but the mother a thousand times more than the father.
