eṣā dharmasya vo yoniḥ samāsena prakīrtitā
saṃbhavaś cāsya sarvasya varṇadharmān nibodhata //

Thus has the origin of the sacred law been succinctly described to you and the origin of this universe; learn (now) the duties of the castes (varna).
