dātṝn pratigrahītṝṃś ca kurute phalabhāginaḥ
viduṣe dakṣiṇāṃ dattvā vidhivat pretya ceha ca //
But a present made in accordance with the rules to a learned man, makes the giver and the recipient partakers of rewards both in this (life) and after death.
