na bhakṣayed ekacarān ajñātāṃś ca mṛgadvijān
bhakṣyeṣv api samuddiṣṭān sarvān pañcanakhāṃs tathā //
Let him not eat solitary or unknown beasts and birds, though they may fall under (the categories of) eatable (creatures), nor any five-toed (animals).
