putrāṇāṃ madhyamo dāyaḥ samānānām apīṣyate | jyeṣṭhasya daśamaṃ bhāgaṃ nyāyavṛttasya nirdiśet

Devala said: / “One should avoid the whole country of Triśaṅku for twelve yojanas, / to the north of the Mahānadī and to the south of Kīkaṭa.

Among sons, even of equal (class), a middle share is approved; to the eldest, if of upright conduct, he should assign a tenth part (in addition).
