puṇye'hni gurvanujñātaḥ kṛtamantrāhutikriyaḥ
smṛtvoṅkārañca gāyatrīmārabhedvedamāditaḥ
On an auspicious day, permitted by his preceptor, having performed the offering of mantras into the fire,
recalling the syllable Oṃ and the gāyatrī, he should begin the Veda from the start.
