Vaiṣṇava Dharmaśāstra 20.32

20.32
bāndhavānām aśauce tu sthitiṃ preto na vindati
atas tv abhyeti tān eva piṇḍatoyapradāyinaḥ //
But as long as his relatives remain impure, the departed spirit finds no rest, and returns to visit (his relatives), whose duty it is to offer tip to him the funeral ball of rice and the water libation.
