20.33
arvāk sapiṇdīkaraṇāt preto bhavati yo mṛtaḥ
pretalokagatasyānnaṃ sodakumbhaṃ prayacchata //
Till the Sapindîkarana has been performed, the dead man remains a disembodied spirit (and is afflicted with hunger and thirst). Give rice and a jar with water to the man who has passed into the abode of disembodied spirits.
