naikagotrāntu varayennaikārṣeyāñca bhārgava /
pitṛtaḥ saptamādūrdhvaṃ mātṛtaḥ pañcamāttathā //
One should not choose a maiden of the same gotra or same ancestral lineage, O descendant of Bhṛgu; / [she should be] beyond the seventh degree on the father's side and beyond the fifth from the mother's side.
