ekākṣaraṃ paraṃ brahma prāṇāyāmaḥ parantapaḥ /
sāvitryāstu paraṃ nāsti pāvanaṃ paramaṃ smṛtaḥ //
The single syllable is the supreme Brahman; breath control is the highest ascetic austerity; / but there is nothing higher than the Sāvitrī: it is remembered as the supreme purifier.
