pitryā yāmāvasī tasyāṃ pitṝṇāṃ dattamakṣyaṃ /
upoṣyābdaṃ pitṝniṣṭvā niṣpāpaḥ svargamāpnuyāt //
On the new-moon day dedicated to the ancestors, what is given to the ancestors becomes imperishable; / having fasted [on it] for a year and worshipped the ancestors, freed from sin, one attains heaven.
