yathārpitān paśūn gopoḥ sāyaṃ pratyarpayettathā /
pramādamṛtanaṣṭāṃś ca pradāpyaḥ kṛtavetanaḥ //
A cowherd must return the cattle in the evening just as they were entrusted to him; / if any die or are lost through his negligence, he who receives wages must be made to replace them.
