yādayaś ca smṛtā hy aṣṭau catvāraś ca samāḥ smṛtāḥ /
anusvāro visargaś ca paukhyau cāpi parānvitau //

the eight beginning with ya are taught [as semivowels and sibilants], and four are taught as the neutrals (samāḥ); / the anusvāra and the visarga, and pau and khyau (upadhmānīya and jihvāmūlīya), accompanied by another [sound];
