335.1

agnir uvāca
vakṣye śikṣāntriṣaṣṭiḥ syurvarṇā vā caturādhikāḥ /
svarā viṃśatirekaś ca sparśānāṃ pañcaviṃśatiḥ //

Agni said: / I shall state the phonetics: the speech-sounds (varṇa) are sixty-three or sixty-four; / the vowels are twenty-one, and the stops (sparśa) are twenty-five;
