vījaṃ vinduḥ patākā ca prakarī kāryameva ca /
arthaprakṛtayaḥ pañca pañca ceṣṭā api kramāt //
The seed (vīja), the drop (bindu), the episodic plot (patākā), the episodic incident (prakarī), and the action (kārya)
are the five elements of the plot (arthaprakṛti); and in order there are five stages of action (ceṣṭā):
