śreyo 'rthamudyataḥ praṣṭuṃ kapilarṣimahaṃ dvija /
tasyāṃśaḥ kapilarṣestvaṃ mat kṛte jñānado bhuvi /
jñānavīcyudacheryasmādyacchreyastacca me vada //
"I had set out to ask the sage Kapila about what is highest good, O brāhmaṇa; / you are a portion of that sage Kapila, granting knowledge on earth for my sake. / Since you have caused a wave of knowledge to rise, tell me what is the highest good."
