saptārciṣā hṛte bhāge gargavidyāvicakṣaṇaḥ /
aṣṭadhā bhājite tasmin yaccheṣaṃ sa vyayo gataḥ //
When divided by seven, one learned in the science of Garga [calculates]:
when that is divided eightfold, whatever is the remainder, that constitutes the expenditure.
