sattvaṃ rajastama iti nirguṇasya guṇāstrayaḥ /
sthitisarganirodheṣu gṛhītā māyayā vibhoḥ //
18. The three attributes of Satva, Rajas and Tamas are (through Maya) assumed by the Supreme Lord, though He is devoid of attributes, for the purposes of creation, preservation and destruction.
