nikṛtya bandhanaṃ nṝṇāṃ kārpaṇyañca nṛṇāṃ vadhaḥ /
upalakṣaṇādvijānīyānmuktānāṃ narakādanu //
seizing another’s property, impurity, and reviling the deities,
binding men through trickery, stinginess, and the slaughter of men—
by these characteristics one should recognize those released from hell afterwards.
