bhasmādbhirlohakāṃsyānāmajñātaṃ ca sadā śuci /
amedhyāktasya mṛttoyairgandhalepāpakarṣaṇāt //
The cleansing of iron and bell-metal is with ash and water; what is unknown is always pure.
Of an object smeared with impure matter, [purification is] by earth and water through removing the smell and coating.
