citāyāṃ tu tṛtīyaṃ syāttrayaḥ piṇḍāśca kalpitāḥ //
The first piṇḍa at departure, likewise [another] at the half-way point on the road,
and the third should be at the pyre: thus three piṇḍas are prescribed.
