kaniṣṭhayā naṣṭatāṃ yāti jīvaḥ sutiṣṭhantyā yāti yogyāṃ pratiṣṭhām /
kaniṣṭhāyāḥ śṛṇu vakṣye svarūpaṃ śrutvā tasyāstyāgabuddhiṃ kuruṣva //
Through the younger [wife] the soul goes to ruin; through the one who stands well it attains proper standing. / Hear the nature of the younger one; I shall explain it, and having heard it, cultivate an intellect to abandon her:
