*sūta uvāca
vasūnvadanti ca pitṝn rudrāṃścaiva pitāmahān
prapitāmahāṃstathādityān ityevaṃ vaidikī śrutiḥ //
Sûta said:—It is written in the Veda that the eight Vasus are the Pitṛis, the eleven Rudras are the Pitâmahas, and the twelve Âdityas are the Prapitâmahas. The recitation of name and clan of the Pitṛis by means of the sacred formula with devotion, carries the offerings made to the Pitṛis:—3-4.
