52.14

svādhyāyairarcayeccarṣīn homairvidvānyathāvidhi
pitṝñchrāddhair annadānair bhūtāni balikarmabhiḥ //

The learned, according to the prescribed rites, ought to (1) adore the Devas by performing sacrifices to the fire, (2) worship the Ṛiṣis by the recitation of the Vedas, (3) the Piṭris by Śrâddha offering, (4) the men by showing hospitality to guests, (5) honour all lower living creatures by scattering food for them on the ground, as described in Balikarma—14.
