etadeva yadā padmam abhūddhairaṇmayaṃ jagat
tadvṛttāntāśrayaṃ tadvat pādmamityucyate budhaiḥ
pādmaṃ tatpañcapañcāśatsahasrāṇīha kathyate //

(2) *The Padma Purâṇa*.—At the time when this universe came out of the cosmic waters, in the beginning of the Lotus Kalpa, and in the form of a golden lotus, then the Padma Purâṇa was revealed, describing that creation, and it is called Padma Purâṇa by the wise. And it consists of 55,000 ślokas.—14.
