daśabhirjanmabhirjātaṃ śatena tu purā kṛtam .
sahasreṇa trijanmotthaṃ gāyatrī hanti kilbiṣam .. 77.4 ..
With ten [recitations] the sin incurred in ten lives is removed; with a hundred, that which was done long ago; / with a thousand, the Gāyatrī destroys the sin arising from three births.
