prāyo mṛto mṛtaprāyaḥ śeṣo'bhūddharaṇītale ..
naṣṭā araṇyajā grāmyāḥ paśavaḥ pakṣiṇo mṛgāḥ .. 4 ..

For the most part it was dead; what was left on the surface of the earth was almost dead;
wild and domestic animals, birds, and deer were destroyed.
