23. Now begins the description of the māhātmya of Cakratīrtha. In connection with that, the worship of Sudarśana performed by the brahmin named Ahirbudhnya is described; the destruction, by the Sudarśana discus, of the rākṣasas who caused obstacles to that brahmin's austerity; the fame of the sacred ford as Cakratīrtha because of the presence of the Sudarśana discus; the performance of a sacrifice to Maheśvara near Cakratīrtha by all the gods who were terrified of the rākṣasas, by command of Lord Brahmā; and the narrative of the god Savitṛ—whose hand was severed at that sacrifice merely upon touching the prāśitra vessel—obtaining a golden hand merely by performing ritual ablutions in Cakratīrtha, in accordance with the words of the sage Aṣṭāvakra. [Thus ends] the māhātmya of Cakratīrtha. 42. 1.
