Hearing her words, the sage of strict vows / explained to her through his insight the cause of her ill fortune:
“At the moment of marriage, you were aspected by malefic planets; / your husband, the king, O daughter, was aspected by benefic planets.
Therefore the king is dear to you, but you are not dear to the king.” / Hearing his words, the queen, despondent in mind,
inquired with humility, bowing her neck in devotion:
“O venerable one, by what gift, by what ritual ablution, and by what observance, / by what deed indeed may supreme good fortune come to be?”
Hearing her words, the sage of strict vows / recounted the māhātmya by which good fortune is attained:
“In the Mahākāla forest, O daughter, is a liṅga that bestows good fortune; / beside Mataṅgeśvara, it grants what is desired.
Merely by the darśana of it, you will obtain good fortune.
That liṅga was formerly worshipped by Indrāṇī for the sake of good fortune; / she obtained supreme good fortune, and even Indra, who was lost, was regained by her.
Therefore, go by my command to the auspicious Mahākāla forest.
Good fortune will be yours there, as well as a meeting with your beloved; / an auspicious son will be born from the darśana of that liṅga.”
Having been spoken to thus by that ascetic, O fair-faced one, / she went to the Mahākāla forest where that liṅga is located.
Filled with affection, she beheld the liṅga that bestows good fortune. / From the darśana of that liṅga, the king remembered his beloved wife.
He asked Jamadagni: “O lord, where has my beloved gone? / Has she been devoured in the forest, O brahmin, by lions, tigers, or night-wandering demons?
She was abandoned by me, a cruel man, yet I was dear to her.” / As the king spoke thus, he was answered by Jamadagni:
“She has not been devoured, O ruler of the earth, by lions, tigers, or night-wandering demons. / Her conduct is uncorrupted; she is devoted to you and faithful to her husband.
