She has gone to the Mahākāla forest, O king, desiring good fortune. / A wife must be protected, O ruler of the earth: so states the supreme Vedic scripture.
When a wife is protected, offspring are protected; / for the self is born in her, therefore she must be protected, O lord of men.
A loss of virtue occurs day by day for one without a wife, O king; / there is failure in daily rites, and that surely leads to downfall.
A wife should be accommodating, whatever the nature of the husband; / even a ill-natured or unfortunate wife must be maintained, O lord of men.”
Hearing his words, the ruler of men arrived / in the delightful Mahākāla forest and then beheld his beloved,
adorned with good fortune, the fair-browed one worshiping Maheśvara. / Seeing her, embracing her with affection, he spoke in return to that beloved:
“I have been tormented by separation from you, O fair-faced one. / Today my eyes are fruitful, and my life is truly a good life,
since I see you, O fortunate lady; I have been made fulfilled by you.” / Having seen her husband thus with great joy, / she said, “Be gracious,” again and again, filled with delight.
Then the king, having embraced the lovely lady with impetuosity, said: / “Beloved, I am already gracious; what more should I say repeatedly?”
Then their union took place, and an exceedingly virtuous son was born; / by the māhātmya of that liṅga, he is celebrated by the name Datta.
Incomparable good fortune was attained by that queen, O daughter of Himavat; / from that time forward on the surface of the earth, it has been known as Saubhāgyeśvara.
Those who behold the lord Saubhāgyeśvara, O wide-eyed lady, / in their family ill fortune is not born, O daughter of the mountain.
There will be no poverty, and no separation from kinsmen, / from sons, friends, or wives, due to the complete worship of this liṅga.
