īdṛśānvarjayecchrāddhe dāne sarvavrateṣu ca .
gāyatrīsāramātro'pi varaṃ vipraḥ suyantritaḥ .. 97.160 ..

such as these one should avoid in ancestral rites, gift-giving, and in all observances. / Even one who merely knows the essence of the Gāyatrī, if well-restrained, is preferable as a brahmin;
