'Where has it been heard or seen, O lords of Asuras, / that beasts engage in wrestling with men in battle, like human beings?
This is Viṣṇu of wicked conduct, evil-souled, a thorn to the Daityas, / who, incapable through his own valour, stands here resorting to illusion.'
Sanatkumāra said: / Then that powerful lord of Asuras, enraged, O Vyāsa, covered him / with many arrows from his bow and shouted fiercely.
Andhaka, Vipracitti, and all those Daityas and Danavas / showered him with sharp arrows by the hundreds and thousands.
Then the divine one, pierced exceedingly by those deeply enraged Danavas, / shone like Mount Himālaya covered with the rays of the sun.
Gathering powerful speed, shaking off the sharp arrows, / the lord playfully advanced against the Danava Prahlāda.
Having rushed to his chariot, he forthwith reduced the charioteer and the chariot / to mere names by means of his tusks and forelegs.
Then, springing down from the chariot though struck by the Danavas, / the god struck that Daitya on the head with the chariot's banner-pole.
Prahlāda, too, leaping up then with a club of dreadful appearance, / struck the enraged one on the chest, like an obstacle standing in the way of righteousness.
Struck by him, the god abandoned his chariot then, / and returned to that very place where he had stood previously.
Then Andhaka, Vipracitti, Śambara, and Kālaśambara / pierced Nandivardhana with arrows resembling venomous serpents.
