Its overwhelming speed checked by the force of his arrows, hurled by the son of Śilāda with unfailing velocity, / struck by Kujambha, the thunderbolt turned back, just like a gift bestowed during a fit of madness.
Seeing that excellent thunderbolt obstructed, and hearing the roar let loose by Kujambha, / enraged, Nandī rushed toward that enemy, as Rāhu rushes at the sun in the vault of the sky.
Forcibly grasping the chariot by its pole-tip with his hand, the protector of the lord of pramathas / seized and hurled it away together with its charioteer and horses; and having hurled it, he roared terribly again.
Its front crushed, its horses disjointed, its charioteer, swords, headpieces, and rim-tips broken, / Kujambha's chariot fell from the vault of the sky, like a mountain whose wings were severed by the thunderbolt.
Leaping down from that chariot battered by the bull Nandi, the son of Prahrāda, undaunted in spirit, / seized a spear; undaunted in spirit, he stood firm like a thundering cloud flashing with lightning.
Licking his lips as though with a serpent's tongue, like Death hungry to devour, / blazing like a crest of the great fire, Jambha hurled it at Nandi.
Discharged by the arm of Indra's foe, that spear, fierce and intensely blazing like an Āṅgirasī sorcery, / was struck by the fire from Nandi's mouth and burned up like a moth in a flame.
