Seeing the iron club seized forcibly by Śaṅkukarṇa, / the delighted gods shouted aloud and praised Śaṅkukarṇa. / The mighty Śaṅkukarṇa, fond of battle, having again seized the iron club, / roared, aimed at Jambha, and charged. / Then that tiger among Dānavas charged, eager for battle. / Then in the army of the lords of gaṇas, and likewise in the army of the Dānavas, / arose the sound of musical instruments mixed with lion-roars. / Then in the vault of the sky arose a noise resembling the roar of an agitated ocean or clouds, / as the denizens of heaven then watched that battle between the sons of Danu and the lords of the gaṇas. / The foremost among the Pramatha host together with the Nāgarudras, and the foremost Asuras together with Andhaka on the battlefield, / ceasing their fighting, stood watching the combat between the gaṇa-leader and the Dānava.
Thus ends the one hundred and thirty-ninth chapter, on the battle of the gaṇas, in the Skandapurāṇa.
Sanatkumāra said:
Seeing Śaṅkukarṇa running towards Jambha, the mighty / Vṛtra ran towards him to slay him, like a lion against an elephant. / Śaṅkukarṇa too, the foremost among gaṇa-leaders, abandoning Jambha, / ran straight against Vṛtra, as lightning [strikes] a tree.
