Assailed by hundreds of Dānavas and wounded by various weapons, / the god moved among the Daityas like a lion among deer. / Furious, with tusks, feet, and his outstretched trunk, / he crushed the Dānavas like an elephant [crushing] reed-beds. / Then, seeing Vināyaka pierced by hundreds of weapons by the Dānavas, / the lords of the Gaṇas, taking up arms, possessed of the valor of elephants and lions, uttered roars and rushed forth by the hundreds.
