śaravrātā gaṇānīke nipatanti girāviva8 ..9 . .
praśāntavādyaninadaṃ śaraghātātivejitam .
gaṇeśvarabalaṃ jajñe bandhujīvavanaṃ yathā . . 8.142.10 . .
ghanāniva9 yathā vāyurvainateya ivoragān .
pṛṣatāniva10 śārdūlastamaughāniva bhāskaraḥ . . 11 . .
tathā kārtasvanaḥ kruddhaḥ śaravajraiḥ11 sudāruṇaiḥ .
nirdadāha gaṇādhyakṣān lokān saṃvartako yathā . . 12 ..

Showers of arrows fell upon the army of the gaṇas as if upon a mountain.
With the sound of musical instruments silenced, terrified by the impact of arrows, / the army of the gaṇa-lords became red like a forest of bandhujīva flowers.
Just as wind scatters clouds, as Garuḍa scatters serpents, / as a tiger scatters spotted deer, as the sun dispels masses of darkness,
so the enraged Kārtasvana, with exceedingly dreadful thunderbolt-like arrows, / burned the commanders of the gaṇas like the fire of cosmic dissolution burns the worlds.
