meditating upon the two great-souled Prajāpatis, Viṣṇu and Pitāmaha [Brahmā],
and having bowed down to that Mahādeva, the three-eyed boon-granting Īśvara,
I shall declare his doctrine, the certainty of the conclusion of yoga.
Know this definition of yoga as it is being spoken by me,
by the practice of which, O great sage, the bonds of the bound souls are severed.
When the mind is firmly established in the Self, the external cessation of conceptual thought occurs,
and there is the unification of the soul with the supreme Īśvara.
