This, O Vyāsa, is called yoga, as proclaimed by Śambhu in the past,
subtle and destroying worldly birth for the surrendered celestials.
When the mind of a person dwelling in the body rests within the Self,
free from discursive thought, directed away from the exterior, subtle, applied through practice,
there is the complete cessation of created things marked by subtle conceptions
such as pleasure and pain, for the practitioner who engages in union.
The supreme lord Maheśvara is that intended goal, the unifier,
since there is then union between Īśvara and the individual self.
