tamo raudraṃ vijānīyāt satvaṃ brahmaṇi saṃsthitam .
rajastu baiṣṇavaṃ vidyātteṣāṃ hantā27 maheśvaraḥ . .57. .
mahādevaṃ paraṃ jñātvā yogābhyāsarato dvijaḥ .
guṇatrayavinirmuktaḥ śaṅkare layamāpnuyāt ..58 ..

One should know tamas to belong to Rudra, sattva to abide in Brahmā, / and rajas to belong to Viṣṇu; the destroyer of them is Maheśvara.
Knowing Mahādeva to be supreme, the twice-born devoted to the practice of yoga, / freed from the three qualities, attains dissolution in Śaṅkara.
