tattadā3 dānavānīkaṃ visasāra diśo diśaḥ4.
pralaye mārutoddhūtamaudanvatamivodakam .. 2 . .
nijaghnurbrāhmaṇān kecit kecinniṣpipiṣurviśaḥ5 .
tustubhuḥ kṣatriyānanye śūdrānanye babhakṣire6 . . 3 . .

That army of the Dānavas then spread in every direction, / like the water of the ocean stirred up by the wind at the dissolution [of the world]. // Some slew the brahmins, some crushed the Vaiśyas, / others overpowered the Kṣatriyas, and others devoured the Śūdras.
