iti skandapurāṇe yuddhe saptāśītitamodhyāyaḥ

Before the staff fell [upon the car] and reached him in his chariot, / the mighty Kārtasvana had rushed at Rudra with arrows.
Cutting down his banner and bow, and likewise the reins of the horses, / having deprived that Jvara of his chariot, he struck him on the head with his sword.
Overwhelmed by the blow of the sword, that Rudra left the enemy assembly / and quickly departed elsewhere on foot, O best of sages!
His mind bewildered by the sword blow, shining with the glow of red sandalwood paste, / leaving that enemy of foremost valor, he fled to where the army of the gods was.
Thus ends the eighty-seventh chapter, on the battle, in the Skandapurāṇa.
