gṛhṇa gṛhṇeti nardanto devān pratyudyayustadā .
teṣāṃ teṣāṃ ca saṃgrāmaḥ sughoraḥ samapadyata ..4..
grāhāṇāmiva6 kāṇḍe7 ca gajānāmiva vā vane8 .
indrastvaṣṭā ca pūṣā ca hiraṇyākṣamavārayan ..5..
saṃgatya sāyakaistīkṣṇaiḥ sarvamarmasvatāḍayan .
teṣāṃ dhanūṃṣi citrāṇi asyatāṃ tu divaukasām ..6..
māyābalena daityendro vyaṣṭambhayata dīptimān .
tāni viṣṭambhitāni sma tadā daityena māyayā .7..
nānamanti yathā pūrvaṃ tataste hyākulābhavan .
sopi daityo mahāmāyo naditvā meghanisvanam ..8..

roaring 'Seize them! Seize them!', they then advanced against the gods. / Between them and the gods a most terrible battle took place, // 4
like that of crocodiles in the water, or of elephants in the forest. / Indra, Tvaṣṭṛ, and Pūṣan checked Hiraṇyākṣa. // 5
Joining together, they struck all his vital points with sharp arrows. / But as those heaven-dwellers discharged them, their wondrous bows // 6
the glorious lord of daityas paralyzed through the power of his illusion. / Paralyzed then by the daitya through illusion, // 7
