mārkaṇḍeya uvāca:
sarvadevamayo viṣṇurgāvo viṣṇuśarīrajāḥ /
deyās tasmāt sadā vandyāḥ kalpitā vibudhair janaiḥ //

Mārkaṇḍeya said:
'Viṣṇu consists of all the gods; cows are born from the body of Viṣṇu. / Therefore they are to be gifted, always venerable, so deemed by wise people.
