jagāma viṣṇubhavanaṃ śakto 'pi tyaktavān bhayāt /
tataḥ sa paramodvigno nirāśo jīvite nṛpa //
he went to the abode of Viṣṇu, but though able, [Viṣṇu] abandoned him out of fear. / Then he became supremely agitated, despairing of life, O king.
