aṣṭamyāṃ ca caturdaśyāṃ śubhe pakṣe tu bhaktitaḥ /
upoṣya śūlinaś cāgre rātrau kurvīta jāgaram //
On the eighth and the fourteenth day in the bright fortnight, with devotion,
having fasted in the presence of the Trident-bearer, one should keep vigil at night,
