caturdhā brāhmaṇānāṃ vai vṛttiḥ śāstraiḥ prakīrtitā |
uñchaḥ śilaṃ tathā śuklaṃ mṛtaṃ cāmṛtakaṃ bhavet ||
The livelihood of brāhmaṇas is declared by the scriptures to be fourfold: / gleaning ears of grain, picking fallen grains, the white [livelihood], dead, and also the non-dead.
