caturṇāṃ puruṣārthānāṃ dātṛtvādvaradā matā |
tathā saṅkaṭanāśitvāt saṅkaṣṭī sā prakīrtitā ||
Because it grants the four aims of human life, it is considered the boon-giver (Varadā); / and because it destroys distress, it is proclaimed as Saṅkaṣṭī.
