yadi vrataṃ ca sarvādau na kṛtaṃ cennirarthakam |
karmahīnaṃ caturbhistannityaṃ kāryā tataḥ prabho ||

If this observance is not performed first of all, it is useless, / bereft of the rites of the four [aims]; therefore, O lord, it must be performed constantly.'
