nārada uvāca
ādityastvavravīcchāyāṃ kimarthaṃ tanayeṣu vai
tulyeṣvabhyadhikaḥ snehaḥ kutra ca kriyate tvayā
He selects (vivṛṇute) boons among the gods, and grants boons to those who seek boons;
the root 'vṛñ' is said to mean choosing, therefore he is called Varuṇa.
