ayanaṃ dakṣiṇaṃ rātrir devānām uttaraṃ dinam
ayanadvitayaṃ varṣaṃ martyānām iha kīrtitam //
The southern ayana is the night of the gods, and the northern is their day;
the two ayanas are declared here to be a year for mortals.
